Old Pipers and Old Friends

We took advantage of our motel Internet to work on our blog a bit in the morning.

After we packed up, we went to the post office and an ATM and then to the Piper Museum. We saw several things about the history of Piper aviation along with an actual J-4 and many other planes. Woody's father, Morgan, rebuilt a 1940 J-4 in their garage back in the 60's. Not many were every built, but they had a big part in Woody's childhood.

Su enjoyed hearing the story of a bear cub saved by a pilot after a forest fire.

At the suggestion, of our friend, Bill Havyer, we took a short detour to go through State College for an ice cream. Then Google messed us up once again, taking us 5 miles too far south before telling us to do a U-turn and drive back. Crazy!

There were low, flat top mountains with wind generators on top. All of Pennsylvania has been wooded. We had some occasional light rain, but it was mostly cloudy and in the low 80s.

We arrived at the home of our friends, Dave & Sue, just before 4 PM. We enjoyed gnocchis, meatballs, and salad on their back deck. More importantly, we had meaningful conversations. We had a lovely time with them and appreciated their hospitality.

This was the first time we forfeited a paid campsite due to the weather forecast. It was a good thing, too, because of high winds and lightning during the night.
